XC60 2012 power tailgate
I changed brand new power tailgate drive units 1 year ago. Everything is so far so good afterward.
Normally, the power tailgate will move gentlely to soft close it and it will automatic further latching.
However, my power tailgate acting abnormal lately…
Tailgate moving gentlely to close like normal initially, however, it will slam to close at last 1-2 inch. Thus, it will not automatic further latching anymore.
I did try manual soft close the tailgate, the automatic further latching will engage. Further latching will not engage if I slam to close.
I did check the sockets of drive units, everything look good and fit.
No fault code. Anything I miss to check?
Please help.

Some things like power windows can loose their set limits, so maybe this has happened. I have no idea if this is the case, but maybe a call to a dealer may clarify this. If it is an issue, it may just need the limits to be retaught. There is a process for P2 (older) Volvos for re-teaching the limits. Hopefully that is all it is. Were they units OE Volvo parts? Did you fit the parts or did a dealer or shop?
If a Volvo dealer fitted them, they should have a lifetime warranty. If they didn't then I think the warranty is around a year. They may take pity on you!

Still may be worth checking with the dealer to soo if there is a reset or close limit/soft close that can be set.

Visited the dealer and met the foreman which I know.
The “slam” is caused by the tailgate weatherstrip. The weatherstrip (xc60 2012) is less elastic and has limited support when the tailgate close. The regular method to fix this “slam” issue is adjust the lock hock (attached to car body) inward to the car, the tailgate will more firm to car body and trigger the further latching.
I do not use the above method to fix it. I adding a small tube (diameter 6-8mm, length about 1 - 1.5 feet) inside the lower edge of weatherstrip to increase the elasticity.
Problem fixed!
