2012 S60 T5 Catastrophic engine failure?

Post by haydenm »

I got volunteered to evaluate my inlaw's care which lost power on the hwy and was towed back home. He started it up and I heard soime pretty bad sounds. I tried to isolate the noise with a scope but couldn't find anything damning up top. Was wet outsie and didn't feel like jacking the car up and crawling underneath on wet pavement. Pulling codes revealed a bunch related to the exhaust cam's position. P054A, P052A, P000A, P000B. Today I verified the cam and crank timing by rotating the crankshaft to TDC and hunting for those timing marks on the cam sprockets. Timing looked correct. I also drained the oil and didn't like what I found on the filter. There's metal. Is this motor cooked? What could've happened?
