There are numerous threads about the ETM failing symptoms, however I am struggling to figure out this one.
When starting the car one morning the dash showed "reduced engine performance" and idle was rough and quickly the engine stalled. After clearing the code with an obd scanner everything went to normal, but as soon as I switched the car off and then back on again, again the same issue. Now I have the obd scanner with me in the car and I have to plug it and perform the code clearing everytime I start. When started everything is fine and no symptoms at all. I have taken the ETM out and cleaned it, taken the battery terminals off for a night in order to clear out memory in the ECM but no changes... Any ideas?

The code i am reading is "ECM-91B7 throttle valve, faulty signal". When I read of the OBD scanner with the car running it says throttle valve position 1° but as soon as I turn the engine off it shows the position to be 7°. No idea if this is significant to the problem...

the throttle plate is not in the position it should be during initial self check, clearing the code allows it to get past the self check and run normal....until the next self check.
you can try cleaning the butterfly plate with carb cleaner and check the harness ,
have it rebuilt by xemodex or replacement from ipd or fcp.

or repair diy, i think the fix is to install contactless wiper assembly. i would try that before buying a new or rebuilt unit.
video showing vida running operational test on bad vs repaired unit.
actual repair.

Thanks for these suggestions, however my car does not have the magnetti marelli ETM but the later models Bosch unit so this rebuild does not apply i guess... I can buy a new ETM for about 300 usd but then I would also need to pay a workshop to calibrate it to the car for me, was hoping for a cheaper solution...

The Bosch ETM gets calibrated by the ECM. No programming is needed.Bill71 wrote: ↑20 Aug 2024, 16:25 Thanks for these suggestions, however my car does not have the magnetti marelli ETM but the later models Bosch unit so this rebuild does not apply i guess... Is there any way to test the ETM when it is out of the car and then after cleaning to see if the cleaning has solved the issue, maybe some measurements? or do I have to bolt everything back together and cross fingers
