Valve train, they all sound like this.

I would say my 2001 T5 sounds exactly the same.

Sounds normal for the age of the car like the guys have said. You can try running a heavier oil and see if it reduces the noise. I wouldn't be concerned.

i ran dino oil in mine when i first got it, the turbo lasted 2 weeks. maybe coincidence but i switched to synth .

Have been concerned with our 2002 V70 XC with almost 84K miles since purchasing this year. Listening to yours however and everyone commenting I feel a little better. Yours is a little bit louder than our XC70 however.

I started using Rotella T6 15W40 in a few of our none Volvo cars besides the XC70 not long after putting it on the road. It does help quiet the motor. It's still louder than the others we've owned besides the 4 Volvos currently running in the fleet, 98 S70 T5, 00 S70 SE NA, 03 S80 T6, 08 C30 T5, 09 S60 2.5T and 2012 XC90.

Will do two oil changes a year and in the cooler months will go with the Rotella T6 5W40 which I've been using for probably a dozen years.
