What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

Both of my cars, as they approach 400km, are leaking oil. About 1L every 5000km.

Should I switch to 10W30 from 0W40? Or should I put some Lucas Oil Stabilizer in my next oil change?

Consumption or leaking? If leaking, where it's from would determine a potential band aid. If it were my car I would go with a 15W40 for summer and 5W40 for winter.

(EDIT: Again, depending on the leak a switch to Dino could be beneficial.)

Funnily enough, with the close to 285,000km 02 XC70 I am working on, the owner says it uses about 1 liter/oil change. Mind you his changes are more like 8000km or more. I have 5W-40 so I was thinking of using that as it needs a change. Thanks for the suggestion!

might start using Rotella instead of the mobil1 stuff then.

Started using Mobil 1 in the mid 90's and stopped as I lost 3 or 4 head gaskets. Had to read it in the magazines back in the day. Tried the Mobil 1 0W40 a couple of years ago when Costco had a sale. The Volvo, Honda and Lexus didn't like it. Back to Rotella T6 after trying a bunch of oil in the last couple of years (a couple of others not shown). Cheap and no complaints from the cars.

I'm certain I'm splitting hairs now, but does T4 or T6 matter? Cost doesn't really seem much better than what I get my Mobil1 on sale for.

Depends. IMO a conventional or semi-syn is fine for a car that does 3000-4000 mile change intervals and has trips long enough to get hot and keep sludge at bay.

If it is subjected to lots of short trips, synthetic is a better choice. Also allows a bit longer change intervals out to 5000 miles.

We don't seem to get gasoline engine Rotella here. All I see are for diesel engines. I know there is a debate if you can use diesel engine oils on gasoline engines safely.

Rotella has a SN rating, so works fine for gasoline engines. Double check the bottle you get with your owners manual page.
