Considering a 2015.5 XC70 T6 3.0L - what should I look out for?

Post by Jonboy74 »

So my 2002 V70 2.4T has just over 302k, and the transmission MIGHT be going out.

So, I started looking at options to ensure I have something dependable.

I stumbled across a 2015.5 XC70 3.0L with 198,000 miles. It APPEARS to be in pristine condition, and the Carfax is clean (no wrecks, and a decent amount of maintenance history). It is a platinum edition that is fully loaded. KBB lists the private party range at $7700 to $9700. Seller is asking $6000.

Either this is a really good deal, or something is wrong. Seller claims no mechanical issues.

I don’t know what I don’t know….and seeing as how I’ve never touched a P3, what should I look out for?

Thanks,

Jonboy

.
I always look at this first for a broad reference and trends in similar problems. The previous and year after can also give you some insights into similar and trending problems.

Do all normal fluid checks you’re able to. Check to see if the engine is warm when you get there, this may be a sign, if it is. Ask the seller to not run it before you arrive.

Have the seller start the car while you stand at the tail end, watching for blue or white smoke on startup. This way you can judge the condition of the battery and the engine.

Drive it for 15 or more minutes, not just say 5. Park and let it idle. Pop the hood and use all 5 senses to look for problems.
