Hey all! First ever post. I recently became a P3 owner with my 2009 XC70 with 185k miles and I love the car! It came with some engine issues and Im unsure which road I should take.
Issues with current engine:
Oil is thin/watery. Coolant might be getting in
Oil sample found very fine black metallic particles and small shavings of aluminum.
White smoke and water(maybe coolant?) appears out of the exhaust after accelerating.
Oil in turbo tubing and intercooler
Oil leaking badly from vacuum pump
Oil level always drops noticably after about 10 mins of use
Uses coolant but noticed decent hose leak.
Rough idle that gets really bad but sometimes clears up by reving the engine, but generally runs rough.
Diag done so far:
Pulled all 6 plugs and they all look even and normal
Removed boost tubing and found oil
Compression tested and came back normal, even on every cylinder.
No obvious signs of oil in coolant, oil is clear just watery, no milkshake.
Prev owner did a timing job, water pump, and headgasket, ran it for a day and it started running like it does.
No misfires, every coil pack works properly.
Important engine codes found with vida:
ECM-P001800- crankshaft position/camshaft position coorelation bank 2 sensor A
ECM-P001600- crankshaft position/camshaft position coorelation bank 1 sensor A
ECM-P052A00- cold start camshaft position timing overadvanced bank 1
I would appreciate any input on where to go from here. The engine wiring harness isnt in the best shape but I didnt notice any obvious issues. Im thinking maybe a turbo would fix some of these oil issues. A vaccum pump seal kit and turbo might sove all my consumption issues. Are the sensors likely to both be out? Is the timing also messed up? I know I need special tools for the timing system and dont know roughly the cost. Would I be better off trying to find a new engine? If not, where should I go from here?

Why did prior owner change head gasket? Probably same issue. Did oil sample say anything about coolant in oil? Or fuel in oil? With all the things wrong, I wouldn't even drive it. probably needs head pulled again and new gasket, maybe it is warped or cracked. Possibly got overheated. Maybe there is record on this in the engine ECU. Timiing is probably off a tooth too. I would check the used engine market- maybe there is one with lower miles reasonably priced. May be better alternative.
