I stumbled onto A post in the S60 Forumwhere someone drilled out the rivers in the metal bracket above to effect repairs to the bracket piece. Will link.

It looks like when opened, the pins 1 is grounded to pin 8 to activate the trunk open light on the 1999 V70

Superseded number is as shown in the pics on first part of the thread, 9203623, which is what I found in my '99 - after serious demolition.
8628197 shows to be still available from Mother, a touch over $190 at this writing. More at FCP.
Chassis break at 423918 in '98, then stays a good number through '00.

Looking at the pictures above, it looks almost identical to the parts of the P2 one I replaced today. Right down to the little spring with the 2 coiled ends for the latch itself. That spring is the one that brock in our P2 XC70.

Shagg tailgate latch gave out moving mom and her a glider around, so I’ll replace with new.

Still available new part at $220 , ouch, bu to do want to reward Volvo of still carrying p80 parts

5 years ago I wrestled with that bill, but I only got 2 years out of my junkyard one before it gave out. I’m using the hatch all the time now with Moms stuff so I went new right away this time

I considered swapping the good one with the partially functioning one across the two Nautic Blue V70s but relented to reward the always reliable Shagg with a new part from Mother

Finally got around to this six months later. I will use the old part to document the positions of the control rods. Yikes, this is a mess

Only hiccup was one of the flat bolts holding in lock pin, lower part stripped its toes head. It chiseled out really easily.

What an absolute nightmare! All this for an idiot light that is more annoying than helpful. Unless there is a way to totally disable this circuit (fuse? which one? wire snip? which one?, etc?) it looks like a bit of black tape at the left end of the cluster will be the way to go, and then check each time the tailgate is closed that it is actually closed. The same thoughts apply to the door latch except hat in that case there is the beeping noise to contend with. SHEESH!

It also enables the alarm system. The wiring diagram implies that is is normally open when the tailgate is closed, and opening the tailgate grounds a DIM pin somwhere. I have not tested this.

IF thats true, you can just cut the wire to the switch and that should kill the light
