Loose transmission mount bracket?

Post by jrschwit »

My newly acquired '02 V70XC suffered a loose transmission bracket. Is this a known problem area. On the test drive after taking delivery of the car and fixing the power steering pump, I noticed a significant engine vibration through the frame and a distinct clunk when shifting into reverse. A closer look found the transmission end of the car had lowered until the transmission case rested on the rubber bumper on top of the subframe. The transmission mount above the steering rack had loosened. Two bolts (10 x 70 mm) had broken off and the third was loose by a thread or two. No visible damage yet found to anything. So I'm wondelring if this is a known problem or I have a one-off.

In the photo, it may appear to be badly bruised or cracked but that's an artifact of the photo.

Also, the plastic air intake tube to the turbo inlet is fraying and I may replace it. What's the secret to getting the intake tube separated from the MAF plenum? I haven't worked it very hard for fear of breaking one side of the clamped connection because of the rigid plastic.

disconnect the maf from the airbox, spray lube in the joint wrestle it off, use heat if it gives you any lip.

.
Never heard of one breaking on any car. Perhaps someone used it as a jacking point and broke it. The plastic is pretty strong so just twist it a little and or light spray of some silicone grease to remove though shouldn't require any.
