Are S60 fuel tanks steel? - 02 S60 2.4T

Post by scot850 »

I posted naturally in the wrong thread (P80) for this question. Are P2 S60 FWD fuel tanks steel or plastic (like a P80). I know CA had requirements for steel tanks, but I can't find any info on this. Trying to help find a tank for a friend which is hard as all the PnP yards puncture the tanks here, which is very helpful.............

If I understand it correctly, the Calif and Mass cars with steel tanks are engine coded in the VIN as B64. This may have been a running change for all Volvos. If the car is accessible above ground feel for a fuel filter by the tank, if you don't find one ahead of the right rear wheel it is a steel tank car.

My friend went to the junkyard today and pulled a tank to try to help figure out why he is getting a leak only when lifting the car on the drivers' side. Otherwise it does not leak. I've asked him if he is getting any emissions codes as that is weird. I'm wondering if it could be the roll-over valve. I'll have to take a look to see what is on that side that could cause it.

The tank my friend pulled he concluded was a metal tank but coated in a plastic type material. Not sure what year he pulled. Most P2's I've seen have the fuel filter under the RHS rear fender area forward of the axle.

Here is a video on replacing fuel pump in steel tank car:

Please note that every so often he decides to go off camera, those are points that are really going to cause trouble and you would really appreciate video guidance.
