part removal query

Post by ptV70 »

I replaced the passenger side front door lock assembly on a 2005 V70 yesterday. On reassembly found the triangular plastic cover over the side view mirror bolts (interior cover) has 2 of 3 pins broken off, and the door itself is missing one of the three metal tubes that the cover pins snap into. I want to replace the missing tube, and get a cover, from my local salvage yard. My question: How to remove those metal tubes and reuse. Thank you.

remove the side mirror, on mine the pins are black plastic.
I glued the trim in place with goop.

Thank you jonesg. I did not make myself clear -- I seek to replace the metal tubes into which the triangular interior trim piece snaps; I do not want to do anything with the side mirror. Are you saying the mirror has to be removed to remove the metal tubes?

Iirc, the tiny metal tubes have prongs on the other side.
It is a press-fit kind of thing.
Just get a pair of pliers and pull it out.
Once you go to junk yard, then it will be obvious.
