There must be a difference in owners manual specs between US and Euro cars.
From the Volvo Car USA Support website:
"NOTE: SAE 15 W-40 oil should only be used in extreme operating conditions such as trailer towing in sustained ambient temperatures over 104° F (40° C). However, SAE 10W-30 synthetic oil would be a better alternative in such conditions.
SAE 15W-30 should not be used under normal operating conditions.

My understanding of the chart is the grey shaded bar is preferred.
The temps in the vast majority of the States stays between -4 and 104F year round, so 10W-30 goes in everything in my fleet.
Just out of curiosity, how often does the temperature in Finland get above 40C in winter ?
