Are rebuild kits available for brake booster vacuum pumps? 2007 XC70

Post by AylmerQc »

Just a shot in the dark in case anyone has ever seen or heard of them.
I tested the brake booster pump (OE 009428081) on my car and it didn't spin. Curious, I opened it up and the fan vanes are all busted, otherwise the motor and everything else seems fine.
If I could just buy the vane it would appear an easy fix....

Edit: I should have written impeller blades but I guess everyone understood what I meant.
It's actually the impeller blade holder that disintegrated. It seems to be made of bakelite or some carbon-type material.
I found a good used one as I didn't want to wait a week or so for a new one to arrive. I'm working in my driveway and between looming rainclouds and soon-to-be-here cold weather, I need to get the car back in order and on the road asap.

Have to do a search. I find that the U.S. tends to sell whole parts whereas in other parts of the world people tend to rebuild. A couple of weeks ago I was surprised find a kit to repair the Odyssey alternator. Since mine has 250K miles on it decided didn't want new parts on such old windings.

Perhaps find a used one and swap the parts over?

Yes, I'm thinking of doing exactly that if a new one ends up costing too much and/or too many days delay in delivery...

Our 06 pump failed before 60,000 miles. Fortunately under warranty!

They fail, but I'd try to find a used one from a junkyard with a return policy.

How did the vanes manage to get busted? They are made from a heavy metal and look indestructible to me

those blades appear to be carbon filled nylon.
it wouldn't be hard to make your own from carbon sheet and epoxy.

Bought one on rockauto for $150cad, wasn’t worth the headache for me.

Replace the booster switch at the same time to insure the new pump.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.
