Since the Swepco 306 15W40 is expensive and not as suitable as 5W40 for your winters you can try the Swepco 502 Premium Engine Oil Improver in your 5W40 oil for the lifter noise. I do recommend Rotella T6 5W40 or the preferred Swepco 308 5W40 as diesel oils will clean better than standard synthetics.

Swepco is a pillar in the Porsche engine building and Indie shops community so you may have to call around if you can't find it online. The Swepco 714 was the factory trans fluid back in the early 2000 per friend who owned a GT2. Dieter at Andial indicated such.

Here in Finland, we have Red Line Seal Saver.

Right now, I've been using 5W40 Quartz 9000 with X-1R additive.

I have used it in several cars without issue. They have been around for a long time. It was watching Scotty Kilmer's that had me give it try initially. As for motor oil my preference is for diesel motor oil.

BTW for tick tock sounds previous owner of my 850 had forgotten completely o rings from injectors somehow.


I would go with suggested attempt test with cleaning stuff if tapping goes away or mostly less. I would agree with misha and others here this is most likely lifters as i dont hear clonk like MoVolvos shared Rod Knock video example i do and it goes away in higher rpm unlike clonking Rod Knock.

Initially I thought it was the ticking from the oil cavitation of a bad oil pan O-Ring like that on my 00 S70. The combination of Kirkland Costco 15W40 dino diesel oil and additives, it eliminated the sound. When it gets bad it could sound like a rod knock as it's caused by oil starvation then. Couldn't find a video on the O-Ring tick so the O-Ring knock :lol:. From the video provide above in OP post it's not likely the tick of the oil pan O-Ring.

No change. Ticking still here. During driving it feels it goes away, but idle you can hear it. Injectors or Lifters. I'm not sure.

The injectors are really loud, for a while I thought my lifters were ticking until one of the lifters really started to tick. The lifters are louder and throatier, the injecors sound like a loud sewing machine.

It usually helps to drive above 4000 rpm for a while, the lifters seem to free from buildup through the high rpms.

+1 on ATP 205. It fixed my RMS leak for years. I only replaced the RMS because I already hat the tranny out while manual swapping.
In your case, the PCV surely is the main reason for the leak.

I also use 5W40 full synth oil in my Volvo, also in my Yaris and Saab 900. I do not believe engine oil additives do much unless you already got a problem then maybe it's worth trying. 5W40 seems to be very common in the nordic countries. My Mazda uses 5W30, the odd one out.

I try and avoid having those problems in the first place by replacing filter and oil every 10,000km or every year, whichever comes first.
