Moving cams when crank is at the mark

Hi. I did a small error when taking off the old timing belt on my 2000 Volvo S70 B5244S with intake VVT. Previous guy had marked marked the cams himself and I trusted those marks, removed the belt and then noticed that the actual cam marks were 180 degrees off, so in this case at the 6 o'clock position. Crank was at it's correct place, between the grooves etc.

I then saw a video on Youtube from RobertDIY where he showed that it is indeed possible to move the camshafts freely, if the crank is at it's mark. I did this and didn't feel any resistance when turning the cams clockwise.

Is this ok? Could I have broken something by doing this?

I guess problem like this is quite rare, where the person takes off the belt when the timing marks are not aligned properly. Or in this case, only the cams were 180 degrees wrong.

When the crank is on the mark, it is fine to move the cams as much as you want. Just be sure they are in time at the end.

I have a picture of the pistons in position with the crank in the timing mark position (this is not TDC) - I think its in my Elizabeth rebuild thread.

Not only is it possible to have the cams 180 degrees out of phase, but it's possible to torque the cam cover like that. Guess which dum-dum did that.

But yes you can fix them even like that, just as I did.
