1998 S70 -- ticking sound behind dashboard

Only when the car is moving and I'm accelerating, do I hear a rapid ticking sound and thought it may have been a leaf in the vent (that's kind of what it sounds like) but when I put my head close to it it seems it coming from behind the speedometer. Any ideas? -- thanks
I've tried banging on the dash lightly but nothing seems to make it go away and it always sounds the same.

actually I misspoke. it does it when the car is moving -- I dont have to be acccelaerating.

That is strange. It would suggest from the fact it only happens when you are moving it is coming from somewhere other than the cabin as it is hard to understand what is inside that only ticks when moving. The only thing I can think if is maybe the speedometer or possibly the famous gear teeth on the odometer failing?

Maybe for an 850, but the 98's are
all electronic as far as speedo/odo.

The only thing that I can think of that
moves back there would be an ECC
damper motor...

But why would it only tick when the car is moving. If it was an ECC fault it would tick all the time?

Only when moving or running ? Does the sound stop or slow when come to a full stop?
