Tried for brake job yesterday. Front brake rotor on above vehicle was rust welded to the hub. I have not done brake work to this car since we bought it. Acquired from a dealership who had maintained it. Am I really to believe dealer didn’t wire brush hub face and lightly coat with grease on last brake job? Who neglects to do that?
I pounded on the rotor with a rubber mallet hoping to shock loose — no joy.
Any removal tips before I resort to drive of shame to mechanic?

Apply heat to the rotor. Then apply hammer. if replacing rotor, use BFH (Big Freakin Hammer).

If I heat the rotor near the hub don’t I run the risk of liquifying the wheel bearing grease in the hub and having it run out?

The standard propane torch is not likely to generate enough heat to expand the rotor anyway. Let others deal with it.

Yeah. I’m no physicist, but I am pretty sure something like thermal mass is involved and I tried the plumbing torch. A bit like trying to put out the Chicago fire with a kiddie pool of water.

Soak the joint of the hub and the rotor with penetrating oil over night like PB Blaster.
The as advised give it a few good hits with a large hammer to shock it loose. Heat is good, but just as likely to damage the bearing.
