2007 XC70. Which rack & pinion fits?

I've been told that there are two types of rack and pinion for my model and year. One has screw-in pipe connectors the other is press fit.
Is that correct and if so, how would or could I know which one my car has ahead of time when going to a car breaker/auto recycler which one I'm going to need or which one the car at the yard has by looking at it?

You need to physically put eyes on yours.

1) Look for push in/threaded connection as you said for the pressure/return lines for the pump.
2) Check the actual brand tag on the rack. Verify it's a ZF or SMI.
3) Verify if you have a solenoid with an electrical connection, this would indicate electrically power-assisted steering rack type.
and finally, the ultimate 'gotcha' in this parts selection
4) Check your lower steering u-joint. One is about 14mm longer than the other one. Dorman has some diagrams on their aftermarket options that show lengths that you can cross reference to yours. It's possible you may need to change your u-joint to the correct type if you select the wrong rack.

I've replaced three racks and sourced them all in Detroit from rebuilders (I have the luxury of being less than 1hr from them) and learned all the above lessons. I can recommend United Power Steering in Redford or Detroit Axle in Ferndale as good options.
