Hello all
I swapped the battery in my 2009 S80 yesterday and did not realize that there is a process for this ... I turned the car off, popped the hood and swapped it out without waiting the typical 5 minutes. Now the car starts and shuts off immediately. I've tried different batteries, and different keys to no avail.
Does anyone know how to fix this? It doesn't run long enough to grab any kind of code. Any help appreciated.

I didn't know there was a 'process' for this. Here is a Youtube for a UK guy swapping his battery on an 09 S80 diesel. I only skimmed through it, but did not note him saying there was a 5 minute delay. I would think that is to allow the systems to go to sleep if they have any residual energy before fitting the new battery.
One of the issues to watch out for is the fusible links. I think your car has 2. One on the side of the battery that runs down to the starter motor and the 2nd one that runs all the body electrics that runs over to the LH inner fender area.
It sound like the one to the starter motor may be bad. You could try bridging the fusible link and see if the car starts and runs.
If all the door locks, windows etc, are ok, then this is where I would focus your attention.
Some newer cars need to be told they have a new battery but this car is too old for that.
Neil.
