2011 C70 correct ATF?

Post by electechbw »

I just bought a 2011 C70 with around 91K miles and I'd like to replace the transmission fluid. The printed manual says that my car uses JWS 3309 spec ATF, but FCP Euro says JWS 3309 "Up to chassis -112000" and JWS 3324 "Starting from chassis 112001- (Last 6 of VIN)".

My chassis number is 118524. So, I'm not sure whether to believe the printed manual or FCP Euro. Any way to confirm?

JWS 3309 is Pentisin CF11S. Later uses I believe CF202 which is supposed to be backward compatible. The handbooks can sometimes be wrong for Volvos. If in doubt, I'd check with Volvo service department.

The fluid is not forward compatible as I understand it.

Just to follow up on this in case anybody stumbles across this later. I wrote to Volvo (turn out I accidentally e-mailed Volvo UK) and this was their response:
Thank you for getting back to me.

No worries at all, I'm happy to be able to support! I have heard back from our internal team and they have shared the available part numbers they can see for transmission fluid for this vehicle which are 31256774 (1 litre) and 31256775 (4 litres). They advise that these part numbers might be different in the US, but your local dealership should be able to search on their system to see if these would be available to them to order for you. I hope this has helped to clarify a bit and hopefully this will match up with the information your dealer can see so you can have that ordered! Please let me know if you have any other questions and I will be happy to assist.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Volvo part number 31256774 is JWS 3324 spec, so the printed manual is indeed incorrect.

Based on the information you provided (VIN 118524), FCP Euro appears to be correct in saying that your vehicle has been converted to JWS 3324.
