Morning,
I have a 2006 s60 about 150,000 miles a day ago driving around and a loud clunk from the transmission with a shutter that shook the car then the vehicle coasted to a stop. It starts and engine runs fine only get loud clicking as I shift through the gears when I put it back in park sounds like gears are not meshing together.
Any thoughts or ideas would be most helpful.

Check the ATF level.
The book says check with engine HOT and RUNNING, but doing this can cause burn to your hand.
You can check it cold with engine off, I wrote the trick in forum: if you do it this way (engine cold and off), then
the ATF level needs to be around the "hot" mark on the dipstick.

Go ahead and check the ATF level just to cross it off the list but CV axles are the first place to look here. Did the anti-skid light warning message come on, too?
You have to remove the plastic air guide under the engine to see them. Look for broken axle half shaft, axle tip dislodged from transmission.
