Chattering Wipers?

Post by Alwick »

OEM Volvo wiper blades, 6 months old. They chatter like hell some of the time and not others. Could humidity affect this? Or could the fact that I use Rain X glass cleaner be the cause? Pretty sure the wiper arms themselves are not bent.

Mine were doing that too. Very annoying. I went to Advance Auto Parts and bought the cheapest set of wiper arms (not just refills since they didn't have any that would fit the Volvo factory arms) they had and put them on. Not a peep has been heard since.

Ah thay all do it at some point, don't really know why.
If your windshield is older and slightly pitted that makes it worse.
CLAY BAR the windshield, that removes the fine ground in dirt, install new blades of your choice.
Adjust the wiper arm (yes Matilda, there is a Volvo tool to adjust the arm and blade angle) and hope for the best

I find the driver's side always chattering. Per the dealer, its the weak design of the 'S' bend in the arm coming off the pivot. The fix is to remove the arm, bend the 'S' to be in the same plane, so to speak. It apparently can't hold up to the spring tension of the blade against the windshield.

Can you buy the tool?

I don't think so, just drive up to Keystone, it takes all of 30 seconds to adjust them, then claybar etc
