Looks like a slick top ....?
Very clean !
Year is hard to tell, but the muffler on the driver side peeking out behind the rear wheel is a surefire way to tell it's an AWD. Also, the rubber flaps in front of the rear wheels are still present, that's an AWD only feature. It also has the correct rims for an AWD, but they could have been swapped at this point.
More than likely a '99. 2000 AWDs are not too common, not sure if they were even sold in the states come to think of it.

Don't FWD cars have the muffler on the LHS as well? AWD cars are normally on the RHS are they not, single in most cases including R in 98 and then went to duals on the R in 99?

I had to really magnify the pictures to see the outline of the AWD small mudflap just forward of the rear wheel. Good catch Sveedy!

I didn't think that there were very many, if any, S70's in AWD. Kind of thought it was a V70 thing.

FWD muffler is mounted farther forward, ahead of the gas tank. Non-R AWDs and '98-'99 Rs had the muffler on the left side, with the tip exiting through another muffler on the right side. It's like a "blank" muffler on the left side almost, where it goes in, but there's no exit. 2000 Rs got dual tips, of course.

Canada only got the M58 for 1998 V70 AWDs I think. And 97 850 AWD wagons.

Funny you mention the 850 AWD. One is supposed to be dropped off later today for me to work on. Funnily it belongs to my ex-Volvo mechanic friend! He loves this car and it has been driven hard by him for years, but it is maintained with over 250,000 miles on it. It has upgraded 2000 V70R brakes all around as the standard ones tended to run out of stopping power! Why does he love it so much? The AWD and the manual trans!

Why is he not fixing it himself? Other than he is really busy, it is for broken dash mount repairs. He has never had to take a dash out and he knows I have repaired several. I owe him too for time donated to the 02 XC70 repairs, so this is a way of giving back to his generosity of his valuable time.
