Finally broke down and replaced my hood release cable and one hood latch (the one with the micro switch-passenger side). Wrestled with the hood cable for quite a while but got it done. Then installed the new passenger side hood latch, just bolted it into position, tested that the hood was locking well and called it a day.
However once I started the car up I saw that the hood latch switch was not indicating that it was closed, so got the "hood open" warning on the dash.
I know that this switch circuit works because it was previously jumpered closed with the old hood latch so that I wouldn't get the error. Is there a hood latch adjustment that will properly engage this micro switch? Looks like you can only move it laterally based on appearance of the slotted bolt holes.
My plan when the weather permits is to reconnect the electrical connectors in case they are not seated well enough. If that doesn't work I'll remove the grill (ugh) and loosen the latch bolts with the hood down in the locked position and see it I can find a position that will engage the switch.
Presently I have nice hood/fender gap alignment, so don't think the bump stops will do anything.
Anyone solve this particular issue?

Well I procrastinated on this problem and it resolved itself. I'm guessing there was a stored code that finally cleared, so no more "hood open" alert on my dash display.
