Hi everyone,

I was checking my fuses and relays and I was wondering if it's normal for a 99 to not have an air pump or an air pump relay? Are they a turbo only product? Volvo parts webstore lists that the airpump should *fit* my car, but the diagrams of where it should be doesn't match my engine bay.

I had noticed I didn't have this relay before but I assumed it was a turbo only thing. I haven't found anything online about s70's without air pumps.

Thanks for your expertise,
Sean

I have a v70xc 2000 and i had the same question, while doing research i found that apparently some models in those years like ours does not have that relay, apparently the air pump is controlled along by the main engine relay.

Hope it helps !

I dont think any turbos use the Supplemental Air System, or SAS, which comprises the air pump, relay, solenoid, and SAS valve that looks like a UFO orbiting behind the engine.

Its strictly a NA thing in my experience, unverified information.

For 96-98, SAS was sometimes equipped on turbo cars, sometimes not. My 98 LPT had it. You can find the exact same car with and without SAS; it was deployed spottily in different markets. This fact is one reason why SAS-delete is easily rationalized, because your neighbor may have the exact same car without dragging around the anchor of SAS.

I'm not expert on the 99-00 turbo cars it may be different there.

I think that gets it right, Erik

!995-1998 - deployed on some cars both NA and Turbo
1999 - No SAS on turbo - maybe on NA?
2000 once VVT comes in , no SAS - you use valve timing for lean burn.

SAS started in 95 or 96, none before that.
