Hi Everyone!
I've benefitted a great deal from Robert DIY and this community over the years. This is my first post. I have a 1998 Volvo S70 GLT, which has been a great car (240k miles), but it's on its deathbed.
So, I had a remanufactured transmission installed about 4 years ago (60k miles). It went out 3 times in the first year and was replaced each time (under warranty). The 4th lasted a while (no longer under warranty), until recently when it began slipping and I noticed burnt smelling fluid. I am hoping to use the federal BAR Vehicle Retirement Program (230k miles), but I need the car to operate in a very basic way (drive 10 yards forward and in reverse) in order to be approved. Is there a short term fix for a tranny that's slipping and on its last legs? I assume it would not be a good idea to change the fluid, right?
Also, is it likely that there are folks who would like to swap out any parts before I junk the car? It needs to function and not be missing certain parts, but I have good tires and pretty much a complete car in decent condition. If so, how would I find folks interested in swapping parts prior to delivering it to the junkyard?
Thank you!!

Have you priced a good used transmission from LKQ plus install?
I’ll guess that will come in about $1500 all in, cheaper than buying basic transportation in CA
The transmissions on these cars are AISIN and are basically bulletproof. Your experience isn’t edge case, it’s fallen over the edge into the abyss

You did not say if the car will currently drive the 10 yard test. Has it stalled completely?
