Radio wiring for 2006 Volvo V70r

Post by nthnnxn »

Hello all,
2006 Volvo V70R

Searched wide and far with no luck so far. Trying to swap out the HU 850 for aftermarket... Can't find a wiring diagram or description for my cars wiring.. It only has the one green connector for the head (no grey secondary connector for speakers like 2001-2004). I have;
9 wires total.
Red and brown are bigger maybe 12 gauge.
2 gray wires with red a stripe, 2 purple wires together, 1 white, 1 green, one blue with white stripe maybe 20-22 gauge

Thanks for any help,
Nathan

amazon sells the adapter harnesses for aft mkt radios.
It depends which plug is on your radio, some are round, some square.
I would look for the ones that are made specifically for your radio unit to fit volvo, messing with pigtails is too confusing.

I am curious, what radio are you putting in? Does it fit without modifications?

Ironically I got a Cheap Amazon Head allegedly meant for my specific dash style. I Also got a dash kit that obviously didn't come a wiring harness, because I assumed that I wouldn't need it with the advertisement on Amazon... The Head unit has a knob for volume, so I had to shave the frame of dash kit a little bit with a Dremel... No other modifications so far besides the wiring hack job I've done.

If crutchfield had options for less than $750 out the door I could maybe go that route... But, it may be sooner rather than later if this Amazon unit is trash πŸ˜‚

Thanks

Yeah, the Cruthcfield solutions looks great but I just can't spend that much on audio.

I wish someone offered repairing the well known internal capacitor problem for the volume e.g. viewtopic.php?t=83828
There was a shop in Minnesota used to do it but they are gone, and were expensive.

This forum has a car audio section. I've used info there to install an aftermarket head, a head mounting facia, amplifier, multiple speakers and a sub.

I did get most of the gear from crutchfield who provided great installation instructions.

The green plug has power, ground, turn on, antenna and more. The grey plug has pairs of leads (4 times 2) to provide speaker level outputs to front and rear speakers.

The front speakers are powered by a single pair. It splits to the woofer and the tweeter. An inline capacitor blocks low frequencies so as to not burnout the tweeter. The woofer just doesn't do high frequencies.

However, the Volvo head units have a round DIN socket, about 1/2 inch diameter, that provides low level signal output to a lead to an optional 200 or 300 watt power amp under the passenger seat. Usually, another lead would run back to behind the head unit. The grey speaker plug would be unplugged from the head unit and plugged into this lead from the amp so the speakers get the improved output.

My 2006 s60 Volvo head unit sent 10 volts to the antenna amplifier. Sending 12volts from the aftermarket one, let alone 14 volts when running results in poor radio reception (FM and am). It is usable but poor.

I am investigating a 10 volts supply. Previously I had an inline resistor 10 watt 200 ohm which was better than nothing but it's not in the circuit currently.
