At $100, that's a steal. Very pretty wagon. Some stuff you need:

New head gasket
New head bolts - they are one time use
Anaerobic sealand to seal up clamshell cover
Special tool kit used to align cams and wind down clamshell. (eBay)
Water pump
Timing belt
Timing belt tensioner

You may be able to just use that head as is, but check it with a metal straight edge, width, length and diagonal, you shouldn't be able to get a 0.006 inch feeler gauge under the straight edge. If you can, the head needs decked at the machine shop.

Also get a cup of water and fill up the combustion chambers. Does it just run all out on the table? If so it's machine shop time to do a valve grind.

Very nice. I do like the color. It's similar (the same maybe) as my 850. I'm a little surprised you didn't look for a whole engine to swap in.

I can't imagine how a guy would lose a head, but some people are "amazing".

Yeah it is a nice color. It should polish up ok in most places.
I figured replacing just the head was more straight forward. But we will see. If the $100 head I bought also turns out bad, then who knows. I'm trying to find a shop to check it.
I think the previous owner removed the head, dropped it off at a shop to be checked/milled, and was told that it was to badly warped to be used. Guessing he just left it at the shop at that point. That was 3 years ago

In this case the head job is already half done, and the PO has done the nasty part!

You can use Permatex for the cam cover at 1/5 the price of the Volvo brand.

Well I got it up on the wheel cribs in preparation for the oil pan removal.

The wheel was actually rusted on ( no small feat here in AZ ) and I had to use a crow bar to pry it off.

Engine compartment is cleaning up nicely. Need lots of wire loom....

Be sure to find High Temp wire loom, so it will last longer.

That loom covering is a standard fair I have found. I have spent many hours recovering the looms on old Volvos with crusty wiring covers.

I am amazed at the engine bay pictures. Have you done a lot of cleaning there before the photo? It looks cleaner than any engine bay and front of the engine I have seen. Project is moving along great it looks like!

Love that billet plywood head.

Note: on the wiring loom. Mine is in decent shape, but every time I look at a P2 at the auction it's barely there.

Yeah I wanted to make sure no critters made a nest in one of the cylinders while I had it outside.
The engine looked like it had never been cleaned, so I hit it with repeated sprays of hot water w/ dish detergent and let that soak. Putty knife and wire brush. Then followed that up with some throttle body cleaner.
I have found high temp wire loom online, but in 100ft lengths. Since I want 3 different sizes of loom, I'd end up with 300ft of the stuff ! Just a little bit more than I think I need.

I got some off Amazon in shorter lengths. Not as good value as the longer lengths but like you, I did not want a bunch left over.
