What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

My temporary visqueen and Gorilla tape to keep what’s left of the grease in my CV joint got cold and is now making a flap flap flap noise. Too cold and snowy to fix it outside.

Failing mounts and bushing season continues. 10-years and 70k+ miles later, the pair of Meyle HD LCA may need an upgrade.

10 years and 93k miles ago I replaced just the bushings, with OE. May need to inspect them after winter, but they were still OK last fall.

they sell collars that go around the original cv boot .
Still too cold though. 17F here, funny ... it feels like 16F.

All I can do in this weather is pulling a DEM fuse, so driveshaft's dead u-joint is not loaded. Big Yotas are parked for month+ now: they don't heat up as well as old Volvo does. Plus all that road salt... Old Volvo does not care about it. Mostly.

Not a problem - it's a feature. Remember playing cards noise makers on bicycle spokes?

I’m trying to fix my headlight control module in my 03 xc70. Reflowed solder and checked all the connections and metered everything, it’s functional but it won’t come back intermittently. Someone I know mentioned the large capacitors might be dry and struggling to get started until the car is warmed up.

Capacitors have a working life and often fail. They are easy to replace if you can identify the rating and can solder.

We're having a mini-blizzard over here, mostly due to one of those North Dakota cold blasts spilling over the mountains. Hard-packed slippery streets, deep drifting snow. I'm getting the odd sensation I am not getting any AWD. You know that FWD feeling with wheel spin and the front end wandering sideways? - it's not grabbing and moving forward. And it has new Blizzak snows on it.

I'm not sure yet, I need to find an empty place I can goose it and turn and see if the rear is kicking in, or if it's delayed somehow.

And the garage is of course filled with old cars and loose engines and axles, so I can't pull it in.

I have a garage and two shops and I have to work on my cars outside. sigh.
