Need measurement of "new" front strut springs on 2011 XC70 T6

Post by rollin_home »

Hi

Could someone please send me a measurement of the distance between the ground to the highest edge of the front fender on a 2011 xc70 t6 with new-ish springs.

I'd like to verify if the springs on my struts need replacing. I plan to redo the struts and I dont know if the springs should be replaced or not .

The car has 180k on it and is making this muted thump thump noise on road bumps . Before it was the exhaust system but thats now tight, in fact the mechanic put it up on the lift and he couldnt find anything loose. So the conclusion, is that it must be the struts although I dont like to just replace $450 of parts when I cant be 100% sure of the cause .

Thanks !

In general , do folks replace the springs on front struts if they are not broken ?
I guess the downside of not replacing springs that are 190k miles old is that its a complete re-do on both front struts if/when one of the springs break . But how often do they break, really ?
