2003 Volvo XC 70 Electrical issues since purchase , what is this black and red wire from the fuse and on passenger door

Post by htxdecalchick »

Hello, I am a new member and thank you for letting me join I use this Form constantly To fix issues on my new to me 2003 Volvo XC 70 And I'm so appreciative of the friendly and helpful community so now I'm experiencing a problem that my mechanic is having trouble fixing my XC 70 has had an issue with draining the battery since I purchased This past October i've swapped out to a new battery as it was dead. The day I made the purchase put a new one in started right up did the deal it was the right price it's the right size for my family so no harm no foul. I've already had to replace the battery Twice Both incidents where Car was running perfectly fine. I stopped power off the engine and then when I go to restart the car, no power no power. Even changed out the starter in January just to find out that it was actually a Loose wire going from the starter, I believe the engine As I didn't do the actual install being a girl in new to mechanic work, I employed a as I didn't do the actual install being a girl in new to mechanic work, I employed amechanic .
On February, I took my kids out to the park and some stores car was running fine Finish Couldn't get it to start, but it will start with a jump that when you go to power put the key in there's no working power dashboards all dead locks all dead. Everything's all dead. You put it to a jumper starts right Up and will stay running unless you Switch off, then requires a jump again I forgot to mention that since getting the truck, I knew it had an electrical problem because the dashboard will occasionally go on and off and triangle, warning, light error and engine, error, warning lights Go in and out to lose power occasionally especially in rainy or wet conditions I got sideswiped about a week ago, and it took out all of the The driver side, luckily, avoiding all the wiring as why locks windows still goes down all that there is a fuse box right there from my fuse box is this black and red wire the black one is screwed into a whole located on the left compartment in between the door and the fuse box with a screw grounded into the hood. The red wire came loose, but it was in one of the fuses towards the middle I don't know how to, reinsert the wires but I believe it's causing now a drain or a short my battery in my battery and I'm searching and searching for the fix. I don't even know if this is stock or if this is something aftermarket but I really really need my car working. again I've also noticed that in this car, they're a lot of Plugs and plugs I believe they are Relays That are missing or not plug-in Also, I've bought fuses and tried replacing those to fix the issue . Please anyone if anyone has experience problems or knows how I can fix this issue. It be greatly appreciated ideas as I'm running out of money to pay this mechanic and not having any car. Is it increasingly Difficult and frustrating day-to-day So for a quick recap
New to me XC 70 2003
Electrical problems since bought with draining battery And dash cluster going in and out, especially in wet weather conditions
Had to replace the starter last month and the battery twice
Has noticed relays not plugged in correctly and not sure if they are purposely done that way or someone has done botched mechanic work
Replaced Some Fuses in front Driver side compartment, and Under hood
Red and black wire coming from Under the dash near the steering wheel
black wire Screwed into driver side, front panel between door and Front dash
Red wire was in one of the fuses plugged in Not too sure which one it came out of

You’ll have to trace those wires and see what they run to. No clairvoyance will tell us what debauchery has been done there.

No video, just upload to youtube and post the link.

I have wires like that for my turbo gauge on top of the dash, its an after mkt addition I installed,
does your car have an aft mkt turbo gauge.?

Get a small flashlight and follow the wires, they go someplace,
if they pass through the firewall have someone jiggle them as you look in the engine compartment.

Do you get a red battery warning light on the dash,
is there a warning saying "battery low".
Or does the battery just quit with no warning,.?
I suspect its just failing to charge when you're driving.

Beneath the power steering pump sits the alternator, theres is a small spade connector with 1 wire, make sure its connected, ensure its tight. It will pull off without too much of a fight, look inside the connector so see if theres any green corrosion.
