Rebuild hvac actuator motors: do they have brushes?

Post by JimBee »

I found this video of a small dc motor refurb. The design and cleanup look pretty simple.

I would give it a try if the Volvo motors are similar.

Has anybody tried this?

I have taken motors apart for P80's from the headlight wipers and the similar ones in the door actuators. Often it is not the motors that wear out, but the thermistor goes bad and then the motor does not move.

I have opened the motors and cleaned the brushes and the contact area and given the motor a general clean. I then reassemble after adding a drop of 3-in-1 light oil onto the bearing/bush.

I did buy a few motor ends for the door actuators as they have the thermistor built in and new brushes. I have still to get to this long term project to see how they go. I bought them off Alibaba a couple of years or so ago.

Great video! I wonder what is the name of the last part you mounted where the negative and positive are.
