For those of you wanting to repair ABS parts here is an easy cheap way to do it. I am always researching things like this, trying to learn new ideas and techniques. I did some research on ABS. I have a 99 S70 GLT and several ABX parts have been cracked or broken altogether.
I would not recommend this for parts under high stress, such as the famous dash bolt repair - for that I would use JB Weld. However for other parts this works like a dream.
My example here is the open storage area under my glovebox. It is held by 2 braces underneath and 2 tabs above that are held by T25 screws. these tabs slide up under the glove box insert and secured. both my tabs were completely broken off and as such there was a noticeable sag in it. I took it apart last night and took it inside. I used ABS pipe cement. For those unaware ABS pipe cement is simply ABS plastic dissolved in MEK (methyl ethyl ketone). When you brush it on something the MEK evaporates and the ABS solidifies. additionally if you are gluing parts back together it sort of acts like a weld. I used a little bit on the 2 surfaces i was putting back together. Held them in place for 30 seconds and them left them for 30 minutes. afterwards I painted more on each side to beef it up a little. the result was a very strong bond like the break never happened. I do not have before pics. I apologize but here is the final result. the product can be found at any big box store or hardware store and typically says medium black ABS cement.

How strong is this compared to the original thing? These kinds of plastic pieces must endure a lot of force, especially the pulling one.
There's two forces that will act on this thing, tensile and shear. The original plastic(when new) can withstand both since it is more pliable and the bonds are strong since the structure is still locked together.

im my opinion it is at least equal to the original if not better. I also believe adding a thin layer to each side beyond the crack, added strength in this case which leads me to believe it may be stronger than original.

I will also add this note:
you can make your own ABS cement by taking pieces of ABS and mixing them with MEK. this would be particularly advantageous for color matching your fixes. In my case my interior is beige and I have cracked beige pieces. I will keep an eye out for a similar interior color in the local yards. grab a few pieces, break them up and make my own. The only S70 local to me are the wrong color.

MEK is Methyl Ethyl Ketone. It is a health hazard. Investigate the hazards and limit your exposure.

You've got to remember that ABS glue was developed to work with tight fitting ABS joints. It's not like you can even glue a butt joint of ABS with it. I'm guessing that because the joint is so tight that the glue can't evaporate quickly, it basically melts the surrounding ABS. I think that's why I have found that if you apply ABS glue to this Volvo plastic, it will separate if you flex it. Maybe very aggressive sandpaper would help, but it's still out gassing too quickly.
Try to learn life's bad lessons vicariously through others.

Maybe you would need a barrier gas like with MIG welding?
