Re: Look at this for ABS plastic parts ( not brakes) repair

Yes you can still get MEK here, either online or through some suppliers. Volvolugnut is correct -you dont want to be working around this stuff alot and you want a ventilated space to do it.
You can also use ACETONE which is more readily available. The fix above worked like a charm. However I want to correct a few things and I have some more insight.

Most of the parts, at least the ones I have scrounged are stamped PC + ABS - Volvo makes these parts as a combination of Polycarbonate and ABS plastics. Polycarbonate resists organic solvents like MEK and Acetone. so home made slurry is not possible in those cases. I tried it the other day and it did not work.
I Ordered some ABS filament (used as 3D printer material) which is pure abs and I am going to try and document a fix from beginning to end including the slurry. For me, its just a challenge and some fun trying to fix it. Clearly you can replace broken or crack parts with new or salvaged ones if its not your cup of tea.

I generally agree with all above. These fixes are not going to work in certain situations like parts under alot of stress.
my test project is a pillar molding which has a crack in it. I will keep you posted.

Thanks for doing this. I think the era of finding good plastic parts in junkyards for P80s drawing to a close like 8 track cassettes.
