Finally got a closer look at the Silver Bullet in my parents’ driveway and found that the coolant leak was coming from the coolant temperature sensor not being sufficiently tightened. Now I have my next project for when the third kid tries out for the swim team and I need a seven-seater.

Incidentally, does anyone happen to know the headliner size for a V70?

170 days since Val the Volvo was last run...

Very nice. Unfortunately, I've driven mine all winter. The past two years I didn't do that. This time, I didn't really have much of a choice since I couldn't find a good winter car since wrecking my S70 by hitting a deer. Normally, by this time I'm itching to get the 850 back on the road. Now, I'm just sick of it being dirty. It also needs work.... SAS rebuild, front brakes, maybe a wheel bearing.

Your picture of the under engine cover reminds me that I have one to install still.

Where do you get those cool under engine covers for P80s ? Would love one for each of my fleet.

They were available from Volvo a few years ago, not sure if they still are.

I washed the Volvo last night, using some "ceramic" shampoo, gave it a nice shine. Today I kept going at it, focused on the plastic trim which had faded. I went at it using a product called Sonax Plastic Restorer. Not silicone based.

Now the car looks a lot fresher IMO.

Hey, thanks for the update. Wow, that trim cleaner works well. I've heard of the Sonax brand and they made good products. Like that it is not silicon based.

That old car is really starting to shine nicely after all the love spent on it. There will always be room for improvement until we can get to the level of P80GLt's cars!

Changed all 4 brake calipers, the ones on the car are 28+ years old and starting to stick a little and I really needed to change the brake fluid.
I ordered the calipers on Wednesday evening and they arrived Friday. They are coated in the usual shiny plated silver crap that never lasts, so today I gave them a coat of high temperature silver paint. I've never flushed the brake fluid on Val and as far as I can see on the service records it was last flushed in 2008 so well overdue. The reason I never flushed the brake fluid which is very dark and probably full of moisture is I didn't want to contend with seized bleed nipples which have a tendency snap.

Once the paint dried I swapped out all 4 calipers and gave my Columba wheels a clean before refitting them.

Brakes are all bled with DOT4+ as per specifications.

While I was in at the front discs I fitted the factory locating pins that were supplied with the car. These have been sitting in the boot since before I purchased the car, I had fitted the rear pins 5 years ago when I changed the discs but forgot to do and never got round to fitting the front ones.

I'd say that brake fluid is long overdue. Whilst not as long overdue, I have 3 cars to flush their brakes and cooling systems this year, Great!
I throw away those pins as I don't use P80 wheels on my P80 and replace with regular M6 10mm headed bolts. I have a bunch of those pins somewhere never to be used!

The brake fluid was nasty scot850 and it's been on my mind since changing the V70 fluid last year. I decided to try and get the bleed nipples loosened on the old calipers and to my astonishment every one of them came out with a bit of gentle persuasion and no heat required. That really did shock me!!!
