Working on a 3rd hand 2004 xc70.
When all doors are closed and the car is running, the red ! on the dash lights up, the message panel reads "the door is open dummy!", and the 1Hz indicator chime is continuous (for 10 minutes or so of driving).
I can block the chime out with the radio, but the interior lights stay on and drain the battery.
The best way to fix this is probably a junkyard driver door lock module? Is that where the door closed sensor lives?
I haven't spend the money for an aliexpress vida/dice module yet. Is that the proper way to diagnose this sort of electrical problem?

One of two things may have failed.
A wire from door to the wire harness goes through the door jamb may be pinched or broken.
The door module may have a failed sensor or wiring fault.
Replacement door modules may need to match your old module to sync with the computer.

He means the module part number has to match exactly the one in your car. You would have to pull yours first to verify.
I would start by disconnecting the wiring harness at the door (it's in a corrugated rubber boot looking thing) and spraying it with a contact/electronics cleaner on both the male and female plug and plug/unplug it a few times to clean up the connections. It may just be a tarnished contact on either side.

Within the door lock/latch module there are two microswitches, one for the door open/close status and one for the door lock/unlock status. These switches do create problems and you can't access them to clean or repair them. A used or new door module will likely be needed for the fix but it can also be an open wire but this is a less probable cause for this problem, it's usually a switch in the module.beewstew wrote: ↑12 Mar 2025, 06:55 Working on a 3rd hand 2004 xc70.
