I recently sold my Passat wagon daily, and have the hankering for getting back into a Volvo wagon. I'm looking at a few different options including everything from 850s to V50s. If there's any off-market 850 wagons I'd love to chat with you. I'll try to be as detailed as possible just to save us all time. I live outside philadelphia but I'm willing to travel. My budget is about 8k, but I'd prefer to spend more like 5-6k so I have a little bit leftover for mechanical maladies and/or modifications.
I would prefer:
Stick + turbo + wagon, especially an 850
Would consider:
Stick + turbo + sedan
or
Auto + turbo + wagon (could swap later down the line)
Not interested in:
Automatic + sedans or anything naturally aspirated. Please don't send me these, it doesn't matter what spec it is, I'm not interested.
I also have a strong preference for "cool colors" so blue/green/black/purple/grey on both the interior and exterior, not a big fan of reds/tans/beiges/yellows.
WTB a P80 (850/v70/s70) - preferably a turbo/stick!

Welcome to our group therapy room; PM'd, but I no longer remember if folks new to the forum can reply that way.

On a 5k budget you might be a good candidate to spend 3-4 months trolling Capital Auto Auction for a decent 100k P80 chassis in your flavo(u)r

Dr. Abscate clarified the new member PM situation, but muddied the waters with the Capital reference. 850 wagons are hard to find in the wild anywhere, manuals more so, and with a turbo they are on the next page after pink unicorns.philbegas wrote: ↑10 Mar 2025, 12:57 I recently sold my Passat wagon daily, and have the hankering for getting back into a Volvo wagon. There are no bargains on any auction house lots dealing with charity donations. People don't normally give away really nice cars.
Dealing with any auction operation - especially online - is fraught with danger; I've been doing business with Capital for decades and have rarely had a purchase go smoothly. The Philly location is worse than DC; my partner bought a car a few weeks ago that didn't match the online auctioneers notes, and even with the volume of business we have done with them through the years it was a battle to get them to kill the sale. He brought the trailer home empty, a day wasted , hundreds of miles on the truck and cash out of pocket for fuel.
I have an 850R wagon that runs well, has a (mostly) straight body but needs paint, ( it was born black, one of three colors for Rs that year ) A/C works, interior isn't hateful, and I mostly use it as an in-town driver. I've found a later R wagon I would rather spend my time and spare cash on.
Get back to me here and we'll figure out a way to connect.

All above is fair. I think we have seen about 4 turbo sticks go through Cap I last couple years, and I think Firefox got the only gem. He still had to tow it home.
A decent number of NA 100k cars pop up at the $2000 mark all in, still need towing, and it’s a roll of a crooked dice at best

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take a look. Teaching myself to be patient is yet another problem haha.abscate wrote: ↑16 Mar 2025, 04:35 All above is fair.
