I’m in London this week and had occasion to stay at the Polish RAF HQ in Kensington. About 150 Free Polish airmen escaped the invading Nazis and flew missions defending in the Battle of Britain, I believe about 20 were KIA
They had the highest success rate of downed Luftwaffe planes , mainly because the fearlessly closed the range to enemy bombers to where relatively light machine guns ( browning 303) were effective.
They were immortalized in Guy HAMILTON’s epic movie “ Battle of Britain”
Nigdi! nigdi! Is still a running joke in our house.
Dad was one of the few. We lost the last BoB airman this past week, at 105
Shout out to Poland! Battle of Britain

I'm pretty sure I saw that movie!
Your father was in the Battle of Britain? Really? Wow.
My son (in high school) built some nice WWII plane models, all based on significant historical events. On shelves we have a Midway collection, a Doolittle Raid B-25 (in which a local resident was the gunner/engineer), and a Battle of Britain collection.
