The radio antenna is likely seized if it doesn't move. There used to be replacement masts from MTC and the likes. Remove the antenna unit from the car, open it carefully and extract the mast. It is likely jammed, has broken teeth or the mast section had seized and cause the last 2 issues.

Clean the interior of the casing and then re-assemble. Slide the new mast into the top of the antenna hole and feed it down into the unit. Have someone switch the radio off and then feed the mast nylon toothed end down into the casing until the mechanism catches the mast and pulls it in. Then raise and lower it a couple of times.

I'm living the dream! Spent yesterday trying to help my ex-Volvo mechanic buddy fit a replacement engine into his 2012 S60 T5. It is a nightmare to work on compared to a P80 and P2. It is so tight. Last week we pulled the motor out the top which was a big mistake. I said we should drop the whole engine and trans out the bottom. I suggested again we do that this week but he was determined to leave the trans in but remove the subframe. It went in just. But that is when we found the problem. The engine he had was from a 2008 S40. Same engine but different mounts for the accessories, and a few other differences. The one we did not catch was the flex ring is about 6mm smaller in diameter. So having got the engine in we could not finish bolting it in. So guess what, now the trans will come out and we will replace the S60 flex plate from the old engine and fit that. First I have to straighten that after the removal from the top last week bent it in a couple of points!

I was pro-active on the V70R I have ordered a new set of Continental 215/45/17" tires. Tires were on sale for 30% off normal price. Hardest point is the Pirelli tires they are replacing are 9 years old and have about 4000 miles maximum on them! I used to like Pirelli tires but these P7 tires were not great.

Hopefully the tires turn up next week and I can get them fitted.

With the weather being mild compared to normal this year, it may mean the R can get out earlier this year!

I have a question. I'm probably gonna have to replace the clutch on my 850 eventually and I was looking at some youtubers doing the same on an 850 they were renovating and they dropped the trans out the bottom and it looked like such a horrible PITA to me. And they had a full size lift! I have a crane so I was thinking when the time comes for me to do this I'll be lifting it out instead. This seems like the easier way to go in my book on the 850 at least.

Or does anyone with the experience of these cars know better?

The last time she was polished was 5 years ago. I do give her a wipe over with Chemical Guys V07 a couple of times during the summer but apart from that nothing else
The water ran off after rinsing and this is what's left to blow off with the airline

I washed the Volvo last night, using some "ceramic" shampoo, gave it a nice shine. Today I kept going at it, focused on the plastic trim which had faded. I went at it using a product called Sonax Plastic Restorer. Not silicone based.

Still got several rust spots though, and many small instances of paint damage.

None of my 850s ever looked that good, well done.
I saw one that had the boiled linseed oil trick a while ago, I already have some of that stuff so I think it will be on my Experiment list.
On the clutch issue, Robert always drops the subframe a bit and takes the transmission out the bottom, even when doing a manual swap.

It is difficult to get the room to lift the transmission out the top. I have not read of anyone managing to remove it that way, but it does not mean it can't be. I have not worked on a manual P80 so I hope other's who have done will chime in. I think Abscate has and I'm sure a few others. The method the dealers use is as mentioned above. Support the engine with an engine brace, lower the subframe and then remove the trans from below. With the P1 and P3 the engine bays are much tighter. Now having worked on 2 or 3 of these, they are definitely better done from below.

Which ever way you do it, let us know which method you use please.

Trying to test a SC-900 head, Dolby unit, cable and amp for a buddy who pulled it at PnP. So far Volvo have not been able to find a correct code for it. I had tis issue before with a re-man'd head unit. Volvo don't update their records when a radio was changed out to the new radio and code. This is even worse when the replacement is a re-man'd unit when they randomly change the original code in that too but don't record that either. It does come with the unit but usually gets lost. Once I was lucky to get the correct one on the 4th attempt. Fortunately as I have my test system I had to leave the unit left on several time to clear the Lock-out after 3 incorrect attempts.

Left the clutch comment on the wrong post; Robert always puts the fender brace rig on to support the engine and drops the subframe to get the trans out the bottom. The subframe doesn't need to hit the floor, it just needs to sag far enough the transmission will clear the inner fender skirt. It's much easier to get the stuff lined up on the flywheel that way too. The support brace will need to be set up to lower the engine a bit during the process.
The rulebook says the subframe bolts should be replaced, as they are torque-to-yield items, probably not a bad idea if you intend to keep the car. When I did a subframe swap on one of mine, I did use new bolts, but when it then immediately needed a rack, I was so disgusted that those bolts went back in.

I dropped my P2 clutch out the bottom, dropping subframe completely.

My cousin just pulled his T5’s drivetrain last weekend to install a 19t, clutch, and transmission. His old M56 failed spectacularly. If you can believe it, it still drove! Clutch wasn’t releasing completely, so you had to start it in gear and couldn’t change gears, but we drove it onto the trailer and into my shop!
Waiting on the correct clutch right now, since clutches for a turbo with a single mass flywheel are incredibly hard to find. He had everything ready to go but it was the wrong clutch.
