And I do have to apologize upfront, this is more of a rant on parts quality than anything.
My daughter came to visit from Boston for the weekend and I had a little to do list for her car. Among other little things, her PS pump has been whining for a while now and I had ordered a new Meyle unit from FCP. Unfortunately, the pressure side hole had no threads, so the line could not be connected, which renders the pump useless. Very dissapointing.
I am leaning towards ordering a Bosch rebuilt unit. More expensive, and requires sending back a core. But hopefully better quality. Or do you experts have suggestions?
Also, the Corteco cam seals which were installed as part of the TB replacement last year, seem to be leaking. This was confirmed by her indie in Boston. More dissapointment. And that's not exactly an easy fix.
If I decide to replace them, would ordering Volvo cam seals be the better choice?
Aftermarket parts quality seems to be seriously declining. Not related to this, but the catalytic converter my indie installed on my 98' S70 last fall, is making rattling noises. Indie confirmed that the honey comb inside is dislodged. That's going to be a fun return to Rockauto.
Anyway before I even got started with the PS pump, we found this little crusty fellow on top of the engine:

The corteco seals leak immediately upon installation. Like immediately. They dont seem to be designed with some spec in mind more like thoughts and prayers. Same for ELRING. Original is the way to go I think and my next attempt(or lots of sealant).

Front cam seals: Corteco is the factory seal. No issues.
No leak in my 2007 S60 after replacing Front Cam Seals.
The problem: after some 140K-150K miles, the Exhaust VVT Hub has so much play that it leaks, even with new seal.
This is why in the DIY I wrote for the 2007 S60 (in this forum), I recommend replacing the Exhaust VVT Hub at that mileage.

If you change to the new fluid line with the correct fitting you would then discover it doesn't fit the steering rack end.
One option is buy the new fluid line and cut the end fittings off and install flare pressure couplers.
Best bet is a junk yard original pump.
Holland pik n pull salvage in North Billerica near Boston will have the part.

That is really interesting. I had no idea that there was a design change. That explains the threaded hole right next to the port, I was wondering why the old pump doesn't have it. This is getting even more frustrating now, because I won't even know if a rebuilt unit will have the correct port.jonesg wrote: ↑30 Mar 2025, 11:43 If you change to the new fluid line with the correct fitting you would then discover it doesn't fit the steering rack end.

Unfortunately I am not near Boston, but I think i will try Erie Volvo. I am not usually a fan of installing used engine related car parts, but like you said, that may just be the best option.

You probably already figured this out - the power steering pump in your picture is for 2005+ P2 Volvos. The up to and including 2004 P2 Volvos used the threaded port that fits your pressure hose.

Also, your daughter's V70 did a great job teaching that rat to not chew on the wires! I wish my 2001 V70 had done the same thing before the carbon canister vent solenoid wiring was damaged.

We are really getting concerned about this. She lives in downtown Boston, and there are so many rats. Things get seriously bad on garbage days, because they will just invade and feast on all the garbage bags left on the sidewalks.
I am looking into deterrent devices that could be placed in the engine compartment, and there are also sprays one can use.
