I have a new to me 2015 XC70 T6 with hi-performance OEM sound system. I have searched across numbers North American sites and pages, and consulted with a couple of top car audio installers local to me and without any luck in helping me to find a product that will assist me to "plug and play" to send the OEM's head unit stereo signal to OEM amp, then out to a DSP connection and from there my own amps and direct connect door speakers and subwoofer.
i thought it was smart to join this forum as ultimately Volvo's inner workings would be more familiar and that there might be some practical application of what I'm looking to do and hoping for assistance in that manner.
My sincerest apologies for my longwinded first post, but looking forward to many others in the future.
My goal here is not to change the headunit, not the original amp, but to wire directly to them, overide the use of the original amp, take the signal out and connect to a dsp which will accept either low or high signal, and connect a door ampflier and subwoofer amplifer to that. There may others on this site that may well be just as interested to know and perform.
My somewhat long journey has taken me to this site, but as an aside, found what I believe is the correct product that will do this for me. However there is an issue with me obtaining this product as they don't ship to North America, nor the UK where I have a friend whom can order and receive the product. I will return to this in a minute.
I have been advised that what I should have been looking for was a Helix SMDI25, to work with the MOST25 signal in my original equipment audio headunit and amp, however, this project no longer exists as it's discontinued. It's nearly impossible to find for sale anywhere, and is quite expensive as well. Similar to this product, but more price friendly is a unit from BRL Electronics. I'm unsure if anyone has tried or has any experience with this product or BRL, can confirm that it works as a plug and play (from Volvo headunit to Volvo amp and ultimately to a dsp of my choosing. Unfortunately I don't speak Swedish, I have reached out to Sam at BRL, and he has been professional and courteous, but short to explain. My guess, he's not interested to advance conversation as per their policy they don't ship outside of possibly the countries in Europe where they have stores.
To make a long story short, should this product do what it says it will do, it will open up a vast array of XC70 owners who've not been able to make this connection to expand their sound either to an SQL or SPL system. For me, i'm more the former than the latter and have top of the line Hertz Components to put into all 4 doors powered by Zapco Amplifiers, only I need to purchase a 10 Channel Helix, Mosconi, or Audison DSP to make the signal connection.
Anyone with experience, I would love to hear from you, or can make recommendations to my adventure would be truly welcome with open arms.
