Adjusting power steering pump pressure

Post by crazytooguy »

Hello!
I just replaced a power steering pump on my 1997 S90, and the pressure seems too high. The steering has the feel of a big luxo-yacht, and I think it's because the new pump is producing a lot of pressure. I don't have a way of measuring it, but I see that the pressure regulator can be backed out of the output port, which should lower the pressure and give a more solid steering feel. But, will it leak because it's backed out of the port? There's a beefy o-ring on the port insert. Is it enough? And I'm concerned the high pressure will eventually blow out the seals on the rack.
Has anyone done this? Did it leak? How much range is available for decreasing the pressure?

Thanks!
