Well after receiving the valve stem seals a few days ago ( mucho Thanks abscate ), I was able to assemble and install the head.
I'm feeling like it's all down hill from here. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the vote of confidence B.B. But some of this is a first for me. And then there is this reoccurring thought that this all might turn out to be an epic failure if I get this started and discover a rod knock etc.

Then I'd really be in a pickle.
But like a lot of historical screw ups, " Well we've come this far, so we might as well keep going. "

So I was looking at the fuel line connector at the fuel rail and I'm wondering how this thing seals. The 850 has no such thing.
It looks like there is an o-ring in there, but how do you service it ?

Also have this connector on a pigtail that comes out of the harness at the alternator. It looks like it needs a male plug, but I haven't seen one looking for a socket. Is it maybe the ECT connector ? I'm still missing that part.

The hard fuel line slides right into that bell shaped connector and seals on those O-rings

It’s right above your index finger holding the ECT connector

THat is the ECT connector for the 99 00 years

I'm guessing that the previous owners didn't use distilled water or a premix for the coolant system.
Now I'm thinking that maybe I should try and flush the block out before I install the new pump. Maybe just stuff a hose in there and give it a blast... ? After installing the cam cover etc of course.
