Resolved: Install instructions for Volvo "load bar" roof rack

Post by beewstew »

I picked up a pair of roof rack "load bars" at the Junkyard today from a 2002 xc70 Ocean Race wagon. The obvious part numbers are:
9484416
30664456
853-3549-02
853-3549-06

Long shot, does anybody know where I can get pdf or similar install instructions for these bars? I can tell that they need to be torqued to 6Nm, but beyond that I'm wondering about placement and any other "gotcha" pieces of information. There's no obvious Thule or Yakima branding on the inside of any parts. No lock cylinder either, although the T30 security bit with the pin/hole at the center was impediment enough.

Pro-tip. When you're trying to get the plastic cover off, turn the slotted fake keyhole 1/4 turn (90deg), not 1/2 turn.

Resolved: install is discussed in the manual. Pictures below. 6Nm is about 50in-lbs. Bars can go anywhere, but slide things farther back for less wind noise.

Inside of lock bolt cover has several part numbers. but no information about Thule or Yakima mfgr.

Do those clamp to the fore-aft rails, or are they designed to take M6 screws into holes on the car ?

Love that label - inspired me to make up a

Theres 2 attachment styles shown ,

page 89 clamp to the side rails that go nose to tail end.

page 88 is the style I used, mine has no side rails, they fit into recepticles in the gutter.

no need to go crazy with the clamps, they grip very well.

Run your fingers down the drain gulley, you'll feel the anchoring locations ,
they're already on the car but they're not visible unless you're 7 feet tall.
maybe stand on a chair
