Interior door handle broke? S60.

So on my S60 2005(facelift) as I went to pull the interior driver door handle, it wouldn't budge. After slightly tilting it in some position I managed to open the door. But it is clear something in the plastics has broken or come loose.
Addendum: Now after fiddling with it, it no longer functions to open the door. Whatever it is, it broke complete and the handle no longer wants to go back in the way it was.

What are my options here to fix this, as it is fairly annoying.

open the door, remove the door card and you'll probably find the plastic slug fell out of the mechanism.
Push it back in until it clicks in place. Might need a small tie wrap.

Indeed a metal pin that I saw is on the passenger door handle is completely absent on the driver door handle.

For reference this is how it is now
