It’s worth a few drain and and fills to refresh fluid in a Volvo transmission, assuming it’s an AT, but a single gear slipping also points to a solenoid failure.
Hers the solenoid shift chart
VALVE BODY SOLENOID APPLICATION (1)
Shift Lever Position No. 1 Solenoid No. 2 Solenoid
“D” (Drive)
1st Gear …………… OFF …………………. ON
2nd Gear …………… ON ………………….. ON
3rd Gear …………… ON …………………. OFF
4th Gear …………… OFF ………………… OFF “3”
Bit strange thst gear 3 would slip without gear 2 also slipping for a pure solenoid failure

Check motor mounts, flex on the shaft caused me to have slip and it popping out of gear on the highway. Fluid changes did not solve it and it would not throw a flashing arrow code when it did happen.
If there is excessive sag then I believe it causes too much friction
