Hi All,

I have a question i have a Volvo xc90 2010. my wife was driving it last week and said it was misfiring. When i got home from work i immediately noticed this wasn't going to be an easy or cheap fix.

Injector 1 was sitting up about 2 inches from its originally position. There was a hole in the head in the chamber wall for the injector. So i stripped off the head and there was 2no tappets failed and the rocker arms had ate through the head so needless to say it is ruined. My question is, is it worth my while replacing the head with a recon unit or because of all the wear these small iron fillings could be anywhere and wrecked the whole engine?

Metal shaving usually end up in the pickup tube and then filter. That is what it is for.

I would question myself how much do I like this car and is it a time for an upgrade. If the decision is to keep the car, then how much miles do you have on this engine and how much maintenance it needs. Chances are your engine is 3.2 and there are quite a few of them around for not much money. I am concerned that all that abrasive material might be still in your engine even if you replace filter. For example big piece is stuck in one of the oil drain channels or obstructing the pick up tube or it is fine abrasive that filter is not able to stop completely and it is ruining all around. Doubt buying restored head will be cheap, plus the time to install it and all the gaskets and headache..I would vote for a used engine from a fresh roadkill

Used head, rework in shop, back one, couple of oil changes, back on the road.

Engines aren’t neurons, they are pretty tough.
