2002 V70 (SRI - Service Reminder Indicator)

Post by Mr. Detail »

Hey Gentlemen;
I tried several times to clear the "SRI" on my P2 but nothing works yet. I pulled these instructions off the internet, specific to my 2002 V70
but they did not work either. Any thoughts?

Instructions for 2002-2007 Models:

1) The service reminder lamp illuminates for 2 minutes when the ignition is first turned on.
2) Insert the key and turn the ignition switch to position I.
3) Press and hold the reset button for the trip odometer.
4) Turn the ignition switch to position II (within 2 seconds)
5) Hold the reset button for the trip meter pressed in until the original trip counter value blinks and is redisplayed.
6) Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 4 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when resetting has succeeded.
7) If the trip meter is already reset, the reset button should be held in for a minimum of 10 seconds and a maximum of 14 seconds.\
8) If the reset button for the trip odometer is not released within 4 seconds, the service reminder indicator (SRI) is not reset.

If that won’t work a ~$150 iCarSoft reader for Volvo off Amazon will reset it. My 2.0 version of it will on P1 & P2s.

Krons, do you have a specific "iCarSoft" reader model number for me? One that will work with a 2002 V70?

My xc90 resets after three blinks of the exclamation arrow, on releasing the trip button

It gives a single chime to indicate success

I had a problem on the blue 2001 V70 where the normal reset procedure wouldn't work. I had the car into the dealer at the time for driver airbag recall replacement and they said they would reset it for me. Their reset with VIDA was no different from my reset with VIDA and didn't work either. I happened to be looking in VIDA for something else and found an extended procedure for SRI reset when the normal way isn't working:

"381: Resetting the SRL (Service Reminder Lamp) to zero
If the service lamp cannot be reset with VIDA or by a manual reset, try one of the following methods.

Programming the driver information module (DIM)
Reprogram the parameter "distance conditions for service" to a new value.
Reprogram the parameter "engine time conditions for service" to a new value.
Ignition off and remove the key.
Lock the vehicle and wait 2 minutes.
Ignition on.
Click the VCT2000 symbol to reset the SRL lamp.
Note! Restore the service parameters to their original values once the reset is complete. "
[I deleted the other two repair options for reloading the DIM and ECM programming.]

That process of changing from 7,500 miles and 1 year for the service interval to 5,000 miles and 6 month fixed it so I could reset the service reminder. After the service reminder was turned off, I resent the duration back to 7,500 and 1 year. The three subsequent oil changes have reset without any problem.
