Post by haoleboyhon »

Does anyone have any comments, observations or other info on 1A Autos TRQ brand Front axle replacements ?
Need to replace mine ( 245,000 miles ) and I like the price. Let me know, thanks.

Just went through this scenario a few weeks ago and ended up just getting a GKN replacement axle. I've had okay experience with 1Aauto in the past for other vehicles (not axles). Their sway bar end links are absolute crap, they'd fail within 6 months to a year. The overall consensus it seems is if you don't want to chance vibes, go with OEM or GKN (OE). You can roll the dice with aftermarket brands like GSP etc but there is always that possibility, some people have no problems. Though since you've got so many miles on a 2002, and being it's an XC you have 4 axles, maybe the cheaper route is the ticket.

That's funny, I just asked that same question. One trusted member told me he has used 1A Auto and TRQ with good results. There is no TRQ company - it's a store brand for 1A, parent company Chinese, but I've seen two references that said US made.

I just ordered a CSA80448 for the RF (2004 XC).

GKN is the way to go. Get them from fcp and forget about problems. Mine are probably 100k

As of yesterday, the GKN is out of stock, no ETA on reorders. Volvo piece is NLA. I’m going to keep my original and rebuild it with new GKN joints if I can find them.

Have you considered having the original GKN units re-machined by someone like Axles Unlimited? They used to offer a lifetime guarantee.

I’ve run TRQ CV shafts and gotten lots of miles. Visually they look well built. I think they are worth the risk. Not terribly hard to replace if they do go bad.

Purchased quite a few parts from 1AAuto. The only one that is not up to par was the passenger window regulator for the 03 Odyssey. Still in use just sluggish going up. I will try their axles next time I need one.

Just was reading about an aftermarket axle problem on another Volvo forum site, the GSP axle had the carrier bearing on the right front axle come loose and it should be a solid press fit on the axle because it locates and holds the axle in place. With the bearing coming loose on the axle the axle moved outward when driving the car and it stripped a section of the axle splines going into the transmission. Initial problem was rpm flares then complete drive failure.

My 1A Auto axle showed up yesterday. The delivery driver taped up the box where it broke in half. I unpacked - everything seems ok, I see no damage. Just a poorly designed box for a long heavy object with a joint in the middle!

The boot was actually right at the box break -

I got on their online customer chat window to at least show them the box. We agreed that it seems to have no damage and go ahead and install. They will ship a new one for free if there are issues.

When you guys have purchased a new axle, how did the joints feel to you? The inner joint is quite flexible and the outer joint at the hub is much stiffer. That's the CV end I think. Do these loosen up a bit with a few rotations?
Thanks -
