Hi Folks. What’s the consensus on reliability for a 2006 V70 2.5T?
I’ve heard some of the older Volvos can go a couple hundred thousand no problem and are bulletproof. Anyone have a experience with this model? Would buying one with 120k on it be a ok commuter car? Thanks in advance.

Mine had 175K miles when I bought it 8 yrs ago.
240K now.
It makes more sense if you DIY repair work.
Get the volvo software and tools, we will help you keep it on the road.

It’s all in the “ how was it maintained” rather than the make/ model.
A 2006 v70 with regular synthetic oil changes is a great candidate for a 300k mile car

A 120k V70 that has been well maintained all it's life could give you many years of service. But even the best ones need to have deferred maintenance addressed. I would budget $1000 to $2000 the first year. The same car that has been neglected could be a serious money pit.

Can you do work on it yourself?ElizabethMulcahy wrote: ↑05 May 2025, 21:57 I’ve heard some of the older Volvos can go a couple hundred thousand no problem and are bulletproof. Anyone have a experience with this model? Would buying one with 120k on it be a ok commuter car? Thanks in advance.
At 120k it probably needs suspension, engine mounts and other DIY bits. If it needs them timing belt/tensioner/idler is more involved, as is PCV service (do a glove test prior to purchase—YouTube will explain what it is).
All the stuff above sets you up for 100k miles of usage, very solid cars. But paying someone to do the work can get expensive like any car.
